Garth the hero if you can call himthat kept popping up during the book. He was married for a long time in the story. She is finally parted from Garth for almost 4 years she was pregnant when she left the last time. He did not reappear till after the child was three years old,. She got her happy ending but what turmoil to get there.

I read reviews on this book before I purchased it and many said the same as I will. It was a great book, a real page turner with tons of action and a super good story. I did grow tired of the resistance they both put up to just say they loved each other sooner. I was dissapointed in Elise that she didn't tell Garth about the child at the end and he was 3 before he got to see his Dad. I knew they would get together in the end but it sure took right to the last page to see it come to fruition. Over all I loved the story and it brought out all forms of emotion from me from crying to being mad to laughing with joy. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes the old school romance with lots of action and a fiery heiroine.

This was my step-daughter's first bodice-ripper book when she was a teen. She lost her original copy in a flood and was absolutely delighted when I sent another copy to her. She has read it many, many times over the years.
I've recently been introduced to the old bodice rippers from the 70's and 80's. This book is not pc, but it is also nearly impossible to put down. Because the author is more concerned with telling a captivating story, than with being politically correct, anything and everything can and does happen. In modern day books, a kind man will always win the girl over a handsome but heartless jerk. In modern day books, the hero will always save the heroine from sexual and physical abuse. In modern day books, everything is very predictable. Sometimes, all you need to do is read the back cover, and you've basically read the entire book.
This book was very different, and impossible to predict. This was a 600 page adventure and love story. The heroine made all kind of friends, and met many different men. She was at the top of society, and she was a slave. She traveled to many different places. Basically, her life was an adventure.
At first, she is a spoiled French teenage aristocrat who is being forced to marry a fat, old, ugly Baron. She dreads the rest of her life. But, on the eve of her wedding, something happens to set her on a four year adventure. It was great to see her grow into a woman who is independent, and a force to be reckoned with.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a story where they are not already bored with the knowledge of what will happen next. However, I will give this warning The heroine is raped multiple times by several different men. She is also beaten multiple times. If you don't want to read about that, then maybe this book isn't for you. That being said, the heroine is a survivor, and it is uplifting to see her overcome the abuse and thrive.
This is one of my favorite romances and it is a full of adventure. Its like a rollercoaster ride full of twists and turns and it leaves you breathless. The modern romance are so boring and politically correct (and poorly written) that this was a refreshing change! Miss this book at your soul's peril!!
NOT you typical love story...and thank heavens for that. I am starting to realize a pattern; the older novels have got it right with the time period, (1970-1980's) and make for far more interesting books and help really build character. I am SO sick of boy meets girl, girl falls madly in love with boy, whom the boy is already so crazy in love with the girl, i.e. love at first sight...right. That only happens in the movies and for my hubby and I. Ok, it was second sight, but it was 15 yrs ago ) What happened to playing hard to get? building a story line? If you are someone who is enjoying the "newer" novels and like the love at first sight...this is NOT for you.

This book does contain rape (multiple times). Violence towards women. The H being with "other" women. If these are a problem for you in the books that you read, then I wouldn't recommend this book. But if you are one that can look past this and are sick to death of the new romance novel and....then this is a MUST get book. Remember, it is a book, the imagination of the author and the author is trying to keep the story as close to the time period as possible. Happy reading
